What is E10?
A petrol with up to 10 % bioethanol; E5 contains up to 5 %. E10 has been sold at German filling stations since 2011.
Can my car run on E10?
Vehicles from November 2010 onwards generally yes, and many older ones too. A look at the fuel filler flap or the owner's manual is often enough. For older vehicles the DAT list “E10 compatibility of motor vehicles” applies; the manufacturer or a workshop can also tell you.
What can E10 do to a car that is not approved for it?
The ethanol can attack seals and cause corrosion. Leaks in the fuel system are also a safety risk.
What should I do if I filled up with E10 instead of E5?

And if E10 is in a diesel tank?
Then you have petrol in a diesel: do not start the engine and leave the ignition off. In common-rail and unit-injector diesels even small amounts of petrol cause damage.
